It is so hot right now here in Gainesville, any great places to get a good frozen treat around town?

Welcome to summertime here in Gainesville! The heat and humidity leaves us all searching for water and anything cold to cool us off. There is a reason many of the apartments around Gainesville have a pool and these amenities are much needed this time of year. If you need a break from the pool and looking for a good ice cream to help beat the heat, here is a list of some of my family's favorite places for frozen treats.

Kilwins Gainesville

Top on our list is Kilwins. The smell alone draws you in and will have you coming back often. Kilwins offers chocolates, fudge, and ice cream in two different locations, one in Butler Town Center and the other close by in Celebration Pointe both convenient to I-75. We love to go to enjoy a sweet treat and stroll through Celebration Pointe to window shop or listen to music.

Yogurtology Gainesville

Yogurtology, also in the Butler Town Center area, offers a variety of yummy flavors of frozen yogurt. Once you pick out your favorite flavor or flavors there is an ample selection of toppings for your yogurt which is always a big hit with my boys. They have a few tables outside where you can relax and enjoy your treat.

Sweet Dreams of Gainesville FL

If you've been in Gainesville for a little while you've probably seen the Sweet Dreams Ice Cream Fire Truck at any of our community events, always a big hit for all age groups including adults. Another reason Sweet Dreams is a popular choice in Gainesville though is their 24 homemade flavors made every day. Also check their facebook page for the ice cream fire truck route, they may be coming to your neighborhood soon.

The Hyppo Gourmet Ice Pops

Head to downtown Gainesville to The Hyppo Gainesville if you are in the mood for a yummy ice pop or visit them online to see if their POPS TRUCK will be in an area near you. They make these pops in a variety of flavors guaranteed to please everyone and cool you off in the process. Bonus is all great ingredients, so no guilt.

Cold Stone Creamery

Do they still sing when you tip them? Gainesville has two locations for Cold Stone Creamery, one located off of Archer Road near 34th Street and another off of Newberry Road in front of Gators Dockside. A family favorite is to have dinner at Gators Dockside then ice cream afterward at Cold Stone Creamery.

Even as a true Floridian every summer still gets me with the heat. July and August are especially brutal with the heat and humidity here in Gainesville, popularly known as "The Swamp," for more than one reason…it is hot and sticky. If you are looking for a frozen treat around your Gainesville apartment visit one of the above locations to help cool you down. Most locations offer outside seating to enjoy your frozen treat so you can remain socially distanced in times of Covid-19.
