Staying in Gainesville over the summer gives students the unique opportunity to learn more about the area and meet new people by attending some of the fun events that are held during the hottest time of the year! When you're not busy studying for classes or working at your internship, there are tons of fun things to do in your spare time.

Many apartments in Gainesville have community swimming pools that give residents the chance to socialize and to meet some of their neighbors. Whether you're looking to spend the day relaxing poolside with close friends or hanging out at a big event with free food and music, these amenities provide you with the perfect spot to enjoy your summer break.

Ginnie Springs is also just a short drive away, located on the Santa Fe River in High Springs, Florida. Visitors can enjoy camping, swimming, snorkeling and kayaking and a number of other fun water activities. The site is a popular summer attraction among local college students with relatively inexpensive general admission fees.

In addition, Gainesville holds a number of festivals throughout the summer months that draw in local musical groups and artists. Spend an afternoon checking out artwork or hearing local bands perform. To learn more about upcoming festivals, be sure to check out the events section of The Gainesville Sun.

While many students are familiar with the attractions that Midtown has to offer, Downtown Gainesville is home to many interesting shops, boutiques, galleries and coffee shops. Just walking distance away from most Gainesville apartments, people can spend their days or nights shopping at trendy boutiques and catching a bite to eat at gelato shops or top-rated sushi restaurants.

The summer months are a great time to get fit while enjoying the Florida sunshine! Keep in mind, if you are not enrolled for summer classes then you will have to pay a small fee to gain access to school recreation centers. Fortunately, there are many nature trails to explore and a huge campus to run or jog around. Apartments in Gainesville also offer sports and fitness-related amenities. Use the Swamp Rentals website to identify communities that provide residents with features such as 24-hour fitness centers and sand volleyball courts. Many students like to register to play Intramural Sports over the summer, with separate schedules existing for both Summer A and Summer B. Teams participate in sports such as indoor soccer, kickball, 5-on-5 basketball and dodgeball. It's absolutely free and a great way to make friends.

There are plenty of sights to see and things to do while in Gainesville over the summer. Start exploring...and biding your time until football season starts up again!
