Anytime Fun

Gainesville might be an up-and-coming destination for young professionals, but it's still a college town – and that means there's something happening every single day. Here are some cool activities you can get down on whenever the mood strikes.

  • Arcade Bar Conveniently located on University Avenue, this is a superb place to hang out on a rainy day and try to beat your high score. This adult game palace has classic arcade favorites like pinball and ski ball, as well as a lively bar and a charming outdoor chill-out space.
  • Bluefield Estate Winery – Take a peaceful drive through Newnans Lake State Forest to this enchanting local treasure and enjoy wine, a picnic, or a stroll through the vineyards. Call ahead to schedule a private wine tasting or walking tour or bring some baskets to pick your own blueberries and grapes.
  • Devil's Millhopper Geological State Park – This is a fab place to go with friends and a cooler full of beverages for an epic nature experience. Descend into an enormous sinkhole that hides a verdant tropical paradise. Great for hiking or just admiring the scenery, this state park is only a few minutes' drive out of town.
  • Ginnie Springs – This legendary private park hosts some of the summer's best parties. Grab your camping gear and several large coolers and explore seven natural springs via tube, kayak, or canoe. The water is crystal clear and a cool 72 degrees year-round, and after dark enjoy drum circles, campfires, and other hippie shenanigans.
