What is PaCE at UF and Why Does It Exist?
PACE (Pathway to Campus Enrollment) is a program designed for students admitted to the University of Florida who begin their studies online before transitioning to campus. UF created PaCE because there isn't enough space on campus for every admitted student. If you've been accepted into PaCE, don't worry—you're still a full-fledged Gator! You take at least 15 credit hours and two semesters online, then once you hit 60 total credits and meet your major's requirements, you transition fully to campus. The only difference is that you can't take in-person classes or live in the dorms right away. Otherwise, you get the same UF experience and degree as any other student.
Many popular majors are available, including Journalism and Business. Engineering is limited to Computer Science, so if you're dreaming of biomedical engineering, PaCE won't be an option. If you took AP, IB, AICE, or dual enrollment in high school, those credits transfer and count toward your 60-credit requirement—meaning some PaCE students finish their online classes in as little as a year.
Can PaCE Students Still Get the Full UF Experience?
Absolutely! PaCE students can rush a sorority, join clubs, land internships, study abroad, attend football games, and participate in campus immersion programs. Plus, if you opt into student fees on One.UF, you'll have full access to the gym, libraries, and student organizations from day one. The only real restrictions are dorm living and in-person classes (for the first part of your college journey). The key is to get involved. PaCE gives you extra flexibility, so use it to your advantage by taking on internships, or getting involved in clubs early on.
Where Do PaCE Students Live?
Since PaCE students can't live in dorms, most find off-campus student apartments. While this might sound intimidating, websites like Swamp Rentals make the search easy. Bonus: As a freshman with an apartment, you'll probably be the go-to spot for pregames, movie nights, and study sessions!
What If I'm Bad at Online Classes?
Here's the truth: most UF students take at least two online classes per semester, even after PaCE. Learning to manage online courses now will make your transition easier. Plus, online classes give you freedom—no class on certain days means more time for travel, hobbies, or just catching up on sleep!
Is PaCE Cheaper?
Yes! PaCE students pay online tuition rates, which are significantly lower than in-person tuition. If you have Bright Futures or Florida Prepaid, you could end up with extra money in your pocket instead of spending it all on tuition.
Final Thoughts
PaCE is just a different way to experience UF. You earned your spot, so own it! Take advantage of the flexibility, get involved, and make the most of your time as a Gator.
