Sophie Krinos is a junior at the University of Florida studying Information Systems and Political Science. This double major will combine her two passions for technology and government, and she hopes to have a career in both fields in the future.
When she's not busy studying for her classes, Sophie is very involved on campus and active in her community. She currently serves as the president of Student Animal Alliance where she raises awareness for animal mistreatment. Her passion for animal rights shines through in her activism by hosting tabling events and visiting sanctuaries to truly make a difference. Before she was elected president, Sophie was an active member of the club and held the role of Public Relations Chair on the executive board. Sophie is very involved in the business school as well when she's not volunteering. She completed the Heavener Leadership Challenge in Spring 2021, where she learned how to improve her leadership and communication skills through the organizations' five core pillars. Before joining our team, Sophie worked as a video assistant for the University's IT department. Her duties involved technical support for livestreaming events such as classes, sports, and commencements.
Sophie was born and raised in Tampa, Florida and never moved until she made the trip to college where she lived in an apartment for the first time. She comes from a self-proclaimed "Big Fat Greek Family" with three sisters and one brother. She is very close with all her siblings and loves to spend time with her family anytime she gets the chance.
After living in a dorm her freshman year, Sophie knew it was time for an upgrade. During her apartment search, her must-have features included a large floor plan with personal bathrooms, all-inclusive utilities, location near a public transportation route, and a pet friendly community because she is thinking of adopting a cat! She found her dream apartment with one other roommate just a 15-minute bus ride to her classes. Sophie prioritizes large living space and a lower price higher than being within walking distance to campus because she doesn't mind taking the bus.
In her free time, Sophie enjoys curling up in bed and relaxing by watching some Netflix shows. Her all-time favorite TV series is The Vampire Diaries and Grey's Anatomy, but she is currently binging YOU Season 3. She also like to get outside in the warm weather by taking a dip in the pool. Whenever she can, Sophie loves to search through local thrift stores for cool pieces. She has even considered turning this hobby into a small business by upcycling and selling the clothes online. She is a fan of thrifting in Gainesville at Goodwill, Salvation Army, and Repurpose Project. You may be surprised to learn that Sophie is vegan. She loves to try new plant-based recipes or checkout local restaurants with vegan options. A few of her favorite vegan food spots in Gainesville include Vegan Gator Food Truck and Karma Cream.
